The Four Stops in Detail
Stop 1: Coldwater Mountain, Anniston
The Forever Wild Coldwater Mountain preserve sits just off I-20 at Exit 179, about 40 minutes from Birmingham. It's an IMBA-designated Bronze Ride Center with more than 25 miles of built trail, from beginner-friendly flow routes to technical rock sections. You don't need bikes to enjoy it. Hikers and trail runners share the same trail network, so the stop works for mixed crews.
The Frontier earns its keep right here. Nissan lists the 2026 Frontier bed volume at up to 49.2 cubic feet, so two full-size mountain bikes fit flat in the bed with the Utili-Track tie-down system doing the securing work. A Pathfinder can carry bikes too, though you're wrestling a roof rack or a hitch rack instead of just dropping the tailgate. The Pathfinder wins if three of your five passengers are small kids who need that third row (but for a trail crew of two to four adults, the Frontier's bed handles gear better).

Fill all three rows and you're working with 16.6 cubic feet behind the third row. Think day bags rather than a full gear haul.
