1300 3rd Ave N Birmingham, AL 35203-1731
Shopping a used Nissan Altima for Birmingham commutes, you'll hear that any year is fine. We'd put it closer to this. Most years are fine, two engine choices split the field, and two specific model years carry active NHTSA recalls you need to check before you buy. That list stays manageable, and we'll walk you through it.
Plenty of Mountain Brook drivers glance at the map, see "downtown Birmingham," and talk themselves out of a dealer they were genuinely curious about. We get it. The worry is that once you leave US 280, you're threading a needle through a confusing grid with one-way streets fighting you the whole way. That's the myth, and it's worth clearing up. In reality the opposite holds true. The route from Mountain Brook to our dealership at 1300 3rd Ave N is one expressway and one straight road, and the one-way grid actually sets you on the right street…

No prices here because they shift. The cargo numbers don't, though. The EPA and Nissan list them as fixed specs, not marketing estimates.
October on US-280 is its own kind of grinding. School is fully in session, the ALDOT widening project between Homewood and I-459 is still active, and average daily traffic on this corridor exceeds 120,000 vehicles. Start with the core answer before anything else. Nissan's two driver-assist layers, ProPILOT Assist and Safety Shield 360, do different jobs in a rolling queue, and understanding the split is what separates using them well from being surprised by what they won't do.
Fall in Hoover has a rhythm to it. Temperatures finally break, the Bermuda grass slows down, and every homeowner's weekend list fills with the same chores. Fresh mulch in the beds, a gravel refresh on the walkway, pine straw out back, maybe a load of topsoil to level a low spot before winter. Each of those projects is real, and so is the question that comes up at our counter, which is whether a midsize truck can really handle this stuff or whether you're in for six trips.
October in central Alabama does something the rest of the year doesn't. The Talladega Scenic Drive lights up, the ridgeline at Cheaha State Park turns red and orange, and a Saturday drive suddenly becomes worth planning around. If you're choosing between the 2026 Nissan Rogue and the Murano for that drive, the answer isn't "whichever is newer." What matters is what the road actually demands, and what you want out of two hours behind the wheel on a winding mountain byway.
The short answer is that the Titan is no longer sold new, since Nissan discontinued it after the 2024 model year. So if you're cross-shopping these two trucks brand new at a Nissan dealership today, the Frontier is your only option. For the Lowe's runs, Home Depot hauls, and weekend project loads that fill most DIY weekends around Birmingham, that works out just fine.
The errand run that should take forty-five minutes turns into ninety the moment you're circling 20th Street North looking for a spot the car will fit into. Vehicle size stops being a spec-sheet footnote and starts costing real time on a Tuesday afternoon. Downtown is where you feel it.
